The Louvre-Lens Museum
An offshoot of the Musée du Louvre in Paris, the Louvre-Lens hosts a variety of temporary exhibitions. The permanent exhibition "Galerie du Temps" is a paradise for art lovers.
It brings together 5,000 years of history in a huge 3,000 m² contemporary design building. The Galerie du Temps houses over 200 works on loan from leading museums such as the Louvre and the Musée du Quai Branly - Jacques Chirac.
Here you can admire works created between the 4th millennium BC and the 21st century.

The Canadian monument at Vimy
A 15-minute drive from Lens town centre, the Canadian Vimy Monument was built between 1925 and 1936 on the site of the Battle of Vimy Ridge (First World War).
The largest Canadian war memorial, the monument, made up of two 40m-high white stone pylons and numerous statues, symbolises France and Canada.
Take advantage of your visit to wander through the memorial's immense green park. You can learn more about the history of the monument at the on-site Visitor and Education Centre.
Climb the twin slag heaps at Loos-en-Gohelle
Pronounced "terris", these are two artificial hills that were formed when the region was mined.
They are made up of accumulations of mine tailings (shale, carboniferous sandstone, etc.). The twin slag heaps are 186 metres high, making them the highest in Europe.
Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, they are a must-see part of the heritage around Lens.
Paths invite you to climb to the top of the slag heaps. A belvedere offers a magnificent panoramic view of the surrounding area, including the 11/19 base, the Canadian Vimy Memorial and the Louvre-Lens.
The twin slag heaps are a 15-minute drive from Lens, and access is free.
