An emblematic site in the region, the Loos-en-Gohelle slag heaps are the highest artificial mountains in Europe (186m above sea level), created by the accumulation of mining waste. A footpath leads to the summit, where you can discover the local flora and fauna, including lizards, yellow butterflies and natterjack toads.
