Visit the historical mining centre of Lewarde
Go back in time to the era of coal mining in the Nord-Pas-de-Calais
Discover the historic mining centre with your family or friends
Located only 35 kilometres from your 4-star hotel in Arras, this centre bears witness to the region's almost three centuries of mining history.
Now listed as a historical monument, the Lewarde historical mining centre is the largest mining museum in the country and invites you to discover the difficult daily life of coal workers.
To discover this impressive and emotional place, the museum opens its doors in the former Delloye pit.
You can explore the museum on your own: however, we recommend that you opt for one of the guided tours on offer so that you can enjoy your visit and hear some fascinating stories.
Two types of guided tours are available:
- "the guided tour of the galleries: a journey to the heart of the mine", 1 hour
- "Testimonial meetings: share a special moment with a former miner", 30 minutes (depending on availability)
More information on the official website of the centre.
After your visit, you can head for the centre for scientific culture of energy: a place specially designed to allow the public to retrace the issues of energy in the past and today.
